Borgravia Military

Army ORBAT

The High Realm Army

The Army is the "Sword of the Vozhd." It uses a Regimental System where local lords or Gormondic loyalists "own" the units, but answer to the High Command.

Infantry Structure (The Terc of Gormond)

Infantry is organized into large, semi-independent formations known as Banners.

The Iron Square: A formation of 1,000 men. 60% are Pikemen (the "Wall"), 30% are Arquebusiers (the "Fire"), and 10% are Halberdiers (the "Garde" for the colors).

The Vozhd’s Lifeguard: The only standing professional regiment, wearing heavy plate and carrying two-handed swords (Spadone) for breach defense.

Cavalry (The Aristocratic Wing)

Winged Reiters: Heavily armored horsemen who utilize pair-pistols for "caracole" tactics before charging with lances.

Stratiots: Light, unarmored scouting cavalry recruited from the borderlands, specializing in harassment.

Artillery

Grand Bombards: Massive, stationary siege engines often named after Sanctorian saints.

Falconets: Light, mobile brass guns used for anti-personnel support within the Infantry Banners.

The Elite: The Guard Banners

These units are directly under the Vozhd’s command and are the most prestigious in the High Realm.

  • 1st Banner of Gormond (The Iron Will): 1,200 Men. The oldest unit in the army, primarily heavy pikemen. They carry the "Original Standard".

  • 2nd Banner of the Guard (The Silver Swords): 1,000 Men. Specialized shock infantry using two-handed swords (Spadone) and heavy plate.

  • 5th Heavy Horse (The Vozhd’s Wing): 600 Cavalry. Elite Winged Reiters who perform the "caracole" with unmatched precision.

The Line: Regional Banners

These form the backbone of the Borgravian "Iron Squares," named after the provinces or historical battle sites that consolidated the High Realm.

  • 12th Banner of Varo (The Wall of Varo): 1,500 Men. A "Double Banner" known for never breaking formation during the Sanctorian Wars.

  • 24th Arquebusier Regiment (The Gormondic Flame): 800 Men. A dedicated black-powder unit that supports the 12th Banner.

  • 31st Banner of the Marches (The Border Watch): 1,100 Men. Mixed pike and shot, recruited from the rugged northern frontiers.

  • 42nd Banner of Oros (The Stone-Breakers): 1,200 Men. Famous for their engineering and heavy halberdiers, often used in siege assaults.

The Support: Specialist Corps

These units are smaller but technically advanced.

  • 7th Grand Battery (Vozhd's Thunder): 12 Heavy Bombards. The primary siege train of the High Realm.

  • 15th Light Horse (The Grey Foxes): 400 Stratiots. Light scouting cavalry used for deep reconnaissance.

  • 9th Field Artillery (The Iron Rain): 20 Falconets. Mobile brass guns attached to the infantry for close-range support.

Navy ORBAT

The High Realm Navy (The Junior Service)

Established late to protect trade with Valseur, the Navy is viewed by the Army aristocracy as a "necessary expense" rather than a source of glory.

Fleet Organization

The Navy is divided into two small Squadrons:

The Coastal Squadron (Pinnace based): Used for patrolling the rocky Borgravian coastline. They rely on boarding actions, essentially acting as "Army on water."

  • Aspirant

  • Bitter North

  • Seeker

  • Wind Rigger

  • Blackwater

The Deepwater Squadron (Galleon-based): Newer, high-sided sailing ships designed for the long route to the Protectorate. These carry the heaviest naval guns but are few in number.

  • Winter's Hold

  • Trident Courage

  • Gormand's Victory

  • Giant Wind

  • Seadrift

  • Northern Rover
