Ebonyr is a sprawling fantasy world divided into two great continents: Ametria in the north and North Meridia in the south. Its nations range from tightly governed kingdoms to fractious city-states, proud republics, and militant theocracies. The world is defined by political intrigue, maritime power struggles, and the constant interplay of faith, commerce, and war.
Technology Level
Ebonyr stands in an age where medieval tradition collides with early engineered power—an era of pikes, spring and air-tech, smoke-powder, and rising cities shaped as much by faith as by invention. Across the continents, breakthroughs emerge slowly and unevenly, held back by guild monopolies, nervous nobility, and churches wary of anything that disrupts divine order. Innovation spreads only when it serves war, commerce, or doctrine, creating a world of reluctant progress, where every new mechanism or weapon feels like a negotiated step between the old ways and an uncertain future.
Religious Landscape
Religion is deeply woven into Ebonyr’s societies, shaping laws, governments, and wars. Several major faiths compete for followers and influence:
The Sanctorian Church – a militant, highly organized monotheistic church that rejects the teachings of Daison. It wields immense political and military power through its military order, the Stellarium.
Daisonite Faith (pronounced:Day Son) - a monotheistic faith centering on the worship of the THREE—the Voice, the Hand, and the Spirit—viewed as three distinct aspects within one true God , as revealed through the foundational vision of the prophet Daison. It has multiple sects, including Purists, Penitents, Passionists, and Pathists.
Holy Covenant Church– a reformist branch of the Sanctorian Church that rejects central authority, emphasizing works of charity and service.
Faith of the Twins – a dualistic belief in deities representing beginnings and endings, choice and consequence, strongly tied to thresholds and transitions.
Sajol Religion – a monotheistic, North Meridia-rooted faith that venerates Sajol, the Eternal Light, who judges humanity by virtue and action.
Together, these religions fuel alliances, schisms, and wars, making faith as much a weapon as any sword or firearm.
"In Ebonyr, every choice echoes — in council chambers, on the battlefield, and in the hearts of the faithful. The balance of power teeters… and the next turn of history may be decided by ambition, by faith… or by the firelock."
