Commonwealth of Sherran

Religion and Culture

Nearly the entire population of Sherran adheres to the Daisonite Faith, which emphasizes personal discipline, civic responsibility, and salvation through worship of the THREE. Public officials are often trained theologians, and many hold honorary or active clerical ranks within local congregations.

Clergy enjoy high status in society but wield no direct political power outside of moral influence. Steeples serve as both houses of worship and centers for communal instruction.

Sherrani culture is deeply rooted in discipline, industry, and piety. Children are taught from a young age to read sacred texts, operate mechanical tools, and participate in local assemblies. Public oration, scriptural memorization, and craftsmanship are considered equal pillars of virtue.

Artisans, engineers, and inventors enjoy elevated status. Guilds often sponsor young prodigies, and many citizens contribute to the common good through both spiritual and mechanical labor. Festivals often revolve around religious milestones, public service, or the unveiling of new inventions.

Economy

Sherran's economy is structured around a powerful free market system. Its principal industries include:

Shipbuilding: With dozens of yards along the coasts and rivers, Sherran produces warships, merchant clippers, riverboats, and troop transports.

Metal and Woodworking: Highly mechanized workshops manufacture everything from household tools to spring-powered weapons and clockwork mechanisms.

Agriculture and Husbandry: The inland provinces are rich with grain fields, sheep pastures, and dairy farms, feeding both the military and the city populations.

Armaments: Sherran is known for its superior black powder arms and precision-engineered artillery, all manufactured under strict guild supervision.

Foreign Relations

Allies: Kingdom of Vonahr and State of Haaret

Neutral: Dominion of Tartesso, Grand Duchy of Ponterra, Principality of Cavasson, Archonate of Lyncanth

Rivals: Crown of Brenland, Valsuer Sovereignty, High Realm of Borgravia and Sanctorian Protectorate

Overview

The Commonwealth of Sherran is a maritime and mercantile power located along the West and northwest Ametrian coast.

Known for its fiercely independent spirit, industrious citizens, and devout Daisonite Faith, Sherran combines religious rigor with rapid technological advancement. It is a bastion of innovation and a producer of advanced air-powered weaponry, maintaining one of the most professional volunteer militaries in Ametria.

Government

The Commonwealth is governed by a bicameral legislative structure known as the Estates of Sherran:

The Upper Estate consists of 25 Orators, typically drawn from the wealthiest and most respected families in Sherran. These men vote on legislation, appoint magistrates, and serve as guardians of constitutional order.

From among their number, they elect the First Orator, who serves as the head of state and voice of the Commonwealth.

The Lower Estate includes 100 Councilors, selected from merchant guilds, civic assemblies, and religious colleges.

The Lower Estate introduces legislation, fiscal policy, and reforms, which must then be reviewed and amended or approved by the Upper Estate.

There is no nobility in Sherran, but immense wealth often brings disproportionate influence. Many of the Orators are heirs of dynastic mercantile houses or military-industrial families.
