Valsuer History
The history of the Sovereignty of Valseur is characterized by its transition from a fractured tribal landscape to a centralized empire, and finally to a clerical autocracy following a period of total societal collapse.
Tribal Era and the Sallian Confederation
Ancient Valseur, then known as the region of Sallia, was divided among five primary tribal powers:
The Parleon: The largest and most influential tribe, centered in Verraine. They dominated the central plains, stretching from the Salvon River to the western Hackle Mountains.
The Renar: Controlled the territories situated south of the Salvon River.
The Tourn: Occupied the northeast along the Sluch River valley, extending to the city of Ciermo.
The Drienne: Held the northwest valley located between the Hackle and Shieldwall Mountains.
The Caphtor: A maritime-focused tribe that governed the Caphtor Islands.
The Charisian Arrival and the Weeping Blood
The tribal status quo was shattered by the Weeping Blood, a devastating plague caused by red algae in the upper Salvon River basin. The resulting mass depopulation allowed for the arrival of Avaron and a large following of Charisians, who established colonies and introduced methods to control the deadly algae.
Seeking to consolidate power, King Marchand I of the Parleon negotiated a historic treaty with the Charisians. In exchange for advanced agricultural and weapons technology, the Parleon converted to Creationism, setting the stage for the religious transformation of the region.
The Parleon Empire
The technological superiority gained from the Charisian alliance allowed the Parleon to systematically subjugate their rivals:
Subjugation of the Renar: After being denied a similar treaty, the Renar attacked the Charisians but were decisively defeated at the Battle of Gereon.
Fall of the Tourn: A combined Parleon-Charisian force defeated the Tourn at the Battle of Grimoald.
Conquest of the Drienne: Following a defeat at Audovera, the Drienne attempted a surprise attack at Galswintha; the failure of this maneuver led to the execution of their tribal leadership.
Following these victories, Guntram I (son of Marchand I) was proclaimed the first Emperor of the Parleon Empire.
The Great Upheaval and Sanctorian Rise
The empire eventually fell into decline, culminating in the death of Emperor Ragnachar, who left no heir. This sparked the Great Upheaval, a period of prolonged anarchy that devastated both urban centers and the countryside.
During this chaos, the Sanctorian Church intervened. Utilizing its newly formed military arm, the Stellarium, the Church restored order through a campaign known as the Great Reclamation. The old Sallian nobility was purged, the region was renamed Valsuer (Unity in Parleon), and the current Sovereignty was established, placing civil authority under the permanent oversight of the Sanctorian Church.
